The Difference Between Car Polish and Car Wax

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

If you are confused about the difference between polishing a automobile and waxing a automobile then this editorial should help you to understand the difference between the products and processes..

Polishing of the paint surface is used to fix defects and can be either chemical or abrasive. Chemical polishes include things like Dodo Juice lime prime and Collinite Pre Wax Cleanser which chemically tidy the surface to remove contaminants and defects. However they are only used for surface preperation and won’t remove swirl marks. Clay bars are non abrasive and are often used prior to polishing to remove obstinate deposits on the paintwork. A clay bar will lift the deposits off the surface and embed them in to itself. Two times the deposites are embedded in the clay its safe and it wont scratch your automobile. Dont forget a nice quality lube to use with the clay to reduce friction and prevent scratching your paintwork.

The life expectancy of an average car has often been debated. Several years ago, it was widely discussed that manufacturers built cars to last for three years. Obviously this doesn’t mean that your automobile will suddenly stop working after three years exactly but, it could be interpreted as manufacturers use parts that are only designed to be functional for three years.

Fortunately, most cars do survive a lot longer than three years. Diesels do tend to outlive their petrol counterparts. It is not uncommon to listen to of some diesel cars covering 200,000 – 300,000 miles before they finally become uneconomical to repair. In the early 1980’s Goodyear Tire prepared a few high performance cars, mostly the Chevrolet Corvette. The tire’s roots were based in formula four racing. The tire’s design was different than most passenger automobile tires and was an overnight victory with devotees of the race automobile. The tire featured a low profile side wall, massive tread blocks for nice dry traction grip, a stiff sidewall and a nylon cap over the steel belts to hold the tire together at high speeds. The tire received a matchless sidewall rating and it was designated with a “V” which meant the tire had been safely tested in the laboratory to stay together at speeds as high as 149 mph. This is the first time the high performance tire was made in The united states.

This tire was an instant hit and were also expensive, even by today’s standards. It was not uncommon for them to cost over $200.00 each. This was an immense price for a tire thinking about the average tire cost around $45.00 at the time.
